Please do not arrive at transition without your helmet or you will not be allowed to rack your bike until helmet is checked (only Cycling helmets allowed)
  • You will receive one race number. Your race number should be worn on the back for cycling and on the front for the run section. If you do not have a race belt then your number may be worn on the back at all times
  • Only Competitors will be allowed into transition, this is for competitor safety and security of equipment that will be left there
  • Only Bike shoes, runners, helmet, sunglasses and food/drink should be in transition next to bike.
  • Abuse of marshals will not be tolerated. They are giving up there time voluntarily so please respect them
  • Please do not litter on the route. Anything you take with you should be brought back.

SWIM – 750 METRES

  • Please do not enter the water unless you are capable of completing the swim as it endangers your life and puts pressure on safety resources and the future of our race
  • Swim caps will be provided and MUST BE WORN for easy visibility
  • Experienced open water swimmers start at the front, less experienced at the back. The wearing of booties or gloves is not permitted
  • The swim will be a beach start, with competitors swimming anti-clockwise  “around the island” and back to the beach
  • The Coastguard may marshal the swim course and kayaks will be in the water to guide and assist swimmers where required, as will the Cork County Council beach lifeguards
  • If a swimmer wishes to retire from the swim lie on your back, and raise your clenched fist in the air. Stay clam and a support kayak will come to your assistance.
  • There is a 40 minute time limit for the swim but if a marshal feels you are endangering yourself or others you can be withdrawn from the water. You will be allowed to continue the race but will receive no official time.

Swim Route – “Around the Island”

The swim route is anti-clockwise around the island keeping the buoys on your left.

BIKE – 18.5 KILOMETRES

  • There are 2 No Race Zones which must be obeyed. Failure to do so will result in disqualification from the race.
  • NO RACE ZONE 1 – as you come into Castletownsend there is a sharp 90 degree right hand turn on a descent. It will be well marshalled. Please slow down and do not overtake
  • NO RACE ZONE 2 – as you descend into Tragumna there are a series of bad bends and blind corners. This is a steep winding hill. Again, it will be well marshalled but please slow down and do not overtake
  • The roads will not be closed and the rules of the road apply.  Gardai and Stewards will marshal the route and must be obeyed at all times.

Bike Route

The bike route consists of an 18.5km circuit.  Starting from transition at Tragumna, heading towards Skibbereen, turning right at the lodge and on to the lake cross.  Instead of heading to Skibbereen, cyclists will turn right and head in the direction of Castletownsend. Here there will be a sharp right turn bringing cyclists along the coast road for the remaining 9km back to transition.

RUN – 5 KILOMETRES

The run is a 5km out and back route.  It is a flat course heading towards Skibbereen for 2.5km as far as what is known locally as ‘The Lodge”. Competitors turn here and head back the same 2.5km route towards transition
